GCSE results day success for Neath Port Talbot pupils

Neath Port Talbot Council congratulates pupils in its schools as they celebrate their GCSE successes.

Pupils have shown such resilience and adaptability during the last academic year that these results, at all levels, need to be fully celebrated and appreciated. Overall, the standards achieved by the year 11 cohort of 2021 are very strong and are a clear reward of pupils’ hard work throughout their school careers.

Despite unprecedented challenges and significant disruption to their year 10 and 11 studies due to the Covid-19 crisis, pupils in Neath Port Talbot have been rewarded with outstanding outcomes which fully reflect their efforts and endeavours to their learning.

This year’s GCSE grades have been awarded by teachers, moderated by senior school leaders, and are based on extremely robust ongoing assessments at key stage 4 over an extended period. The staff in Neath Port Talbot schools have worked tirelessly to determine grades and gather the evidence. We are confident that this whole process reflects the breadth of work pupils have undertaken to achieve these results.

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Cllr Ted Latham, said: “I am very proud of our young people in Neath Port Talbot and would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported them to achieve their results. I have no doubt that the grades awarded fully reflect their efforts and that our young people have secured the results that they deserve. Their parents, schools and communities must also take great pride in their achievements.”

Schools in Neath Port Talbot have again secured very good results in the face of many changes and challenges. I have complete confidence in our teaching workforce and am assured that pupils can take their key stage 4 qualifications as a sound basis to enter their next phase of learning.”
