Free Guy Review

It’s been a year past due with many movies in the entertainment industry. And let me tell you, in my very personal opinion, Free Guy has been well worth the wait. As per usual, Ryan Reynolds turns every one of his projects into pure gold. And I say that with no bias in that statement. I don’t know how he does it.
Well, maybe except for Green Lantern. What the hell was up with that???

In any case, Free Guy is a fun, light-hearted comedy flick with superb graphics, laughs around many corners and has somewhat a bit of a love story involved, and then some. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, we see Guy-played by Ryan Reynolds.

I see Guy as the epitome of the average joe. That person who’s always in the background – That’s exactly who he is in this story – A Non-Player Character or, (NPC). Because little to his knowledge, he’s nothing but a character in a video game. Re-doing the same routine in an endless loop as all the other NPCs do.

Until one day, he happens to come across Millie.

Millie-played by Jodie Comer, who you may remember from Killing Eve, Ether Way and had a part in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She played Rey’s mother if I remember correctly.
When Guy comes across Millie, this is a bit of a game-changer if you’ll excuse the way I put that. Millie seems to awaken something inside him which, causes him to break his programming. Little does he know that Millie is an avatar played by the actual Millie in the real world. This is where the love story comes into play, but there’s more to Guy than meets the eye.

Now, when it comes to real-world Millie, we find that she’s on a mission of her own. It turns out that she and her friend Keys-played by Joe Keery, are the actual creators of this worldwide multiplayer game. She’s determined to expose ex-partner Antwan for stealing their idea for the game along with its coding and will do anything to keep this from happening.

Antwan, played by Taika Waititi-Director of Thor: Ragnarock and voice of Korg for that movie. Antwan is your typical sleazy, backstabbing S, O, B who only believes in the almighty dollar and loves himself along with his image. He’s one of those middle-aged guys who try to sound like millennials. He actually sounds like Korg. (Which is so funny!)
Now I can’t mention Taika without letting you know of an extra special guest appearance from an avenger, which completely blew me away. For those of you who have seen Free Guy, you know who I’m talking about, HA HA HA!

All in all, I had so much fun watching this film. Everyone played off each other so well, and it was even cool to see Channing Tatum play a part as a game character. I was laughing my head off. And also, to see actual YouTube gamers in this was so cool. That was a nice touch.

I have to give Free Guy five stars, I don’t know what you think, but I like what I like.
Thank you for reading.
Stay safe out there.
