Many of us will face severe illness in our lifetimes. These illnesses will be a hard reminder that we are in fact not invincible, and that even our own bodies can be the one who betrays us. With this can come a lot of heavy emotions such as grief, doubt and even anger. So how can we become resilient in the face of these adversities whether it be emotionally or spiritually?

Amelia Vogler, grounding expert and energy medicine specialist, is passionate about helping others by equipping them with the skills necessary to be emotionally resilient while going through severe illnesses, such as cancer. She’s helped hundreds of clients better deal with the struggles of major illness.

Here Amelia’s explains practices those suffering with cancer or any other illness can implement to strengthen their emotional and spiritual resiliency:

“The stress response is full of contracted energies – anxiety, worry, restlessness, sadness, and anger. Acknowledging your feelings is essential but making choices to attend to them is equally so. We can get lost in contracted and heavy energies, which will, over time, lead to our resilience waning. I recommend that clients confronting illness assemble their team – reach out to your church or Spiritual community and let them know what you are going through. It’s okay to say, “I am not sure what I need, but I just don’t want to be alone.” Slowly over time, you will get more and more clear about ways to ask for help. Along with your Spiritual community, I recommend seeking out a holistic energy-based practitioner, someone who does Healing Touch, Reiki, or another Energy Medicine Specialist. These practitioners help you move energy – energies like worry, pain, anxiety, and even hopelessness. There are also beautiful practices that you can turn to without a professional. You can begin a meditation practice to help steady your mind. You can look into grounding practices, such as working with your breath and being in nature, to help you recenter yourself and connect back with your core. Remember, your body has excellent healing wisdom and has healed many times in your past. Listen to your doctors, get second opinions as it feels empowering, and stay close to your team and aspects of your life that bring you joy and support your calm.”
