Leading UK Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) platform and the first BNPL travel agent, Butter, reveals some of the world’s best holiday destinations for those who are looking for some autumn sunshine after being cooped up during the past 18 months of the pandemic.
Autumn getaways have always been popular for UK holiday goers – with the school summer holidays over, prices are much more affordable than during the high season and many countries still offer high temperatures and long hours of daily sunshine well into September and beyond.
With some of the highest average temperatures and largest number of sunny September days, Egypt and Israel rank top for current autumn sunshine.
Sadly, however, Egypt currently finds itself on the red list for the UK government’s travel traffic light system, and while the traffic light system looks set to be scrapped for a new ‘go’ or ‘no go’ classification, UK tourists are currently not allowed to travel to or from the African nation.
While Israel is currently on the UK’s green travel list, the complex nature of the socio-political situation at the moment also means it might not be the best bet for some autumn sun.
With two of the sunniest September locations off the table, Cyprus ranks top for a last minute summer holiday. With average September temperatures of 30°C enjoyed across 29 days of sunshine each month and sea temperatures of around 27°C, Cyprus promises one the sunniest September holidays in the world. To travel and stay in Limassol, it costs an average of £122 per person per night.
It’s current amber list status means double-vaccinated travellers can currently travel with two pre-flight departure tests and a day two test on their return.
Other amber destinations include: –
– The Canary Islands which offer an average temperature of 27°C over 28 days of sunshine at a cost of £111 per person per night.
– The West Coast of America where the average September temperature is 25°C across 28 days of sunshine at an average cost of £148 per person per night.
– Greece with an average temperature of 27°C across 27 days of sunshine at a cost of £128 per person per night.
– Portugal with an average temperature of 27°C across 27 days for an average price of £101 per person per night.
– Morocco where the average September temperature is 26°C across 27 days of sunshine at a price of £89 per person per night.
Timothy Davis, Co-Founder and CEO of Butter, commented:
“It remains to be seen just how drastic any reclassification of the traffic light system will be although a significant number of red list countries are expected to become available for those looking to get away this autumn.
However, this is unlikely to materialise until October and so those in search of some September sun on foreign shores will have to continue to adhere to travel restrictions and testing requirements for amber and green list destinations.
The good news is that there are a handful of amber list destinations that also rank as some of the sunniest during September and so an unseasonal tan certainly isn’t out of the question.
They are also fairly affordable although you will need to factor in a pre-flight PCR or antigen test for both your outbound and return flights, as well as a day two test when you return to the UK. While this is an additional cost shopping around can mean purchasing all three for under £100, rather than paying in excess of £150 for a single test from some companies.
