Tristan hits four in Ammanford’s big away day win.

Port Talbot Town 1 Ammanford AFC 7 Ammanford AFC are back to winning ways after an emphatic away win against Port Talbot Town in their latest JD South Cymru league game (Friday 17/09/2021).

The first twenty minutes of the first half was probably the best spell the home team had in the entire game. Port Talbot were playing some neat football, causing Ammanford a few problems down their flanks with Jenson Cory and Manny Maloney trying to play in fellow striker Lewis Reed. For the visitors, a nasty collision early in the game led to Ammanford’s Richard Lewis having to leave the field and be substituted by central defender Euros Griffiths.

Ammanford were slowly growing into the game and the midfield trio of Leon Britton, Kai Whitmore and Dale Jones were stamping their authority on the game. Ammanford’s paceman Tristan Jenkins gave Port Talbot a warning of what to expect as he came close to opening the scoring but his shot sailed over the crossbar. Ammanford’s fullbacks were finding more and more space coming forward and with just over half an hour played Ammanford’s full back Matthew Jones won his side a corner.

The resultant cross was met by Euros Griffiths who headed the ball powerfully into the Port Talbot net to open the scoring. 0-1 Three minutes later Ammanford’s Lee Trundle doubled his sides lead with a close range headed goal. 0-2 Port Talbot were rocking and with four minutes to the interval it was Ammanford’s Tristan Jenkins who broke free and ran into the Port Talbot penalty area and scored from close range. 0-3.

As the first half ended Ammanford were clearly in the ascendancy and they could sense that there were going to be more opportunities in the game to extend their lead even further whilst the home side were left to ponder how to get themselves a foothold in the game. The second half started where first half had ended and within a couple of minutes Ammanford’s Tristan Jenkins beat the Port Talbot defence and scored his second goal of the game. 0-4 Ammanford were totally dominating the play with Leon Britton becoming even more influential in his switching of play and finding his team mates with an array of short and long passes.

Ammanford’s Tristan Jenkins was mesmerising his markers and with an hour played in the game he completed his hat trick of goals and was proving unstoppable with his weaving runs and clinical finishing. 0-5 Tristan had only just finished celebrating his hat trick and as the game restarted Ammanford were quickly on the attack again and it was Tristan Jenkins on hand again to slot the ball into the back of the Port Talbot net to take his individual tally to four goals. 0-6 Ammanford’s seventh goal of the evening seemed inevitable and it was a real thing of beauty from ex Swans legend Lee Trundle as he twisted and turned and from outside the right hand side of the penalty area he unleashed a powerful shot from all of twenty yards out from goal.

He watched on as the ball simply flew passed the desperate outstretched dive of the Port Talbot goalkeeper James Donnelly to thump against the roof of the Port Talbot goal net. 0-7. The game was done but credit to Port Talbot they kept going to the end and got a consolation goal in the 84th minute when Daryl Hughes broke the Ammanford defensive lines and placed his shot passed Ammanford’s goalkeeper Craig Morris into the net 1-7. The final whistle blew and Ammanford celebrated their away win. It was a good all round team performance with an outstanding individual performance from Ammanford’s Tristan Jenkins.
