Britain risks losing the war for talent. Parag Khanna’s MOVE featured on BBC’s Today Programme

Strategic futurist, Dr Parag Khanna, is launching his controversial new book MOVE: How Mass Migration Will Reshape The World.

Dr Khanna says the last two weeks is just the “first skirmish of a global war for talent and the UK government has already lost the first battle.”

He adds that the UK’s massive trucker shortage of 100,000 drivers, fuel hoarding, and supply chain disruptions show the country hasn’t yet learned from the post-Brexit pain.

But Dr Khanna, who has advised governments around the world on how to plan for the future, believes the UK can win the war for talent – if it plans ahead and secures the migrants it needs from the predicted four billion young people on the move over the next decades. For the UK, that would mean the population reaching 80 million by 2040 or sooner.

Dr Khanna says:
“The UK doesn’t need an army of soldiers to keep the country moving – it needs an army of skilled migrants who can fill the gaps in the UK workforce. The next world war will be a war for talent and the UK Government has lost the first major battle. But it can win the war IF it plans ahead NOW.

“By around 2035 we will reach “peak humanity,” when global population will plateau and start to decline. Nations will then be fully engaged in an all-out war for talent, recruiting young and able-bodied construction workers, farmers, students, entrepreneurs, caregivers, and generally any potential taxpayer, to stave off an economic decline driven by demographic deflation.

“It’s much better to get migrants now while they’re young and can assimilate and become loyal citizens — and before other nations make their move in the war for talent. As we’ve seen from the last two weeks, collecting people means collecting power.

“Immigration policy should be less about absolute numbers and more about sorting and matching. Why shut out highly skilled migrants only to face a shortage of doctors and nurses in the NHS — during a pandemic.”

Time and again, British farmers call for strawberry pickers at highly predictable intervals — and nobody turns up. Now they’re having to offer people more than £70k to drive a lorry!

Yet Britain is a climate oasis, one of the territories that climate models identify will become more liveable and suitable for human habitation, even as global temperatures rise. As Parag Khanna argues in his groundbreaking new book MOVE, as the world population plateaus and we reach “peak humanity,” collecting people means collecting power. Crucially, he forecasts the decades ahead through the eyes of today’s youth.

“French winegrowers, who find their terrain is becoming harder to grow grapes, are actually buying British land to relocate their vineyards. Southern England now has among the best climates for growing wine grapes. Why let the French take all the action? This is a great opportunity for the English wine industry.”

“Britain needs a new master plan, made by synthesising maps and data about the country’s evolving climate and agriculture, trade relationships and supply chain hubs, infrastructure and skills base.”

The Times has just called Dr Khanna’s vision of the future “thrilling” emphasising its “unapologetic call for mass migration” – something Britain clearly needs right now.

Major adaptations are appearing soon in the Telegraph, Times, and FT — including a stern critique of COP-26’s negligence of the need for immediate climate adaptation measures.
