Action for Children’s young carer project in Ceredigion is marking World Mental Health Day (10 October) by delivering wellbeing gift bags to the children and young people who use this key service and have been particularly hard hit during the coronavirus pandemic.
The emphasis for the gift bag is around taking time for themselves and having fun. The pack will contain items for a home film night with added extras like a wellbeing journal, pen, notebook water bottle and fidget toy. A total of 80 gift bags were created and have been distributed across Ceredigion
Vikki Phillips, family support practitioner for Ceredigion Young Carers services, said: ‘As we mark World Mental Health Day, we wanted to give young carers something that would help them relax and make a bit of time for themselves at home. It’s not always easy to mark out some time for yourself when you have caring duties. We want the gift bag to remind them about the importance of relaxing and putting themselves first for an hour or two. It’s richly deserved.’
Ceredigion Young Carer services supports young carers aged 8 – 25 by raising awareness, identifying and providing direct support to children and young people who look after or help to look after someone in their family who is unwell or disabled, including children caring for parents who have mental health or substance misuse problems.
