Do you battle with binge eating disorder (BED) or binge eating tendencies that cause crippling feelings of distress? Do you feel guilty and ashamed following a binge? Do you typically carry out these binges alone and eat rapidly feeling out of control?
If you find your eating habits are causing you significant distress and cause you high levels of disruption in other areas of your life, please seek professional support and discuss this through with your GP. Please also refer to ‘Beat’ which is the UK’s leading charity supporting those affected by eating disorders.
I have been subjected to this disorder and know all too well these feelings. Though I completely commend the NHS, being seen by a specialist promptly is becoming an impossible task due to their demands. Often when we need support we are placed on a waiting list whilst our condition magnifies and festers.
During my most helpless times I felt all I needed was to speak to others who I could relate to, to feel understood. I felt if I could just talk to people who really knew what I was going through, I would feel less ashamed and less alone. I searched and searched for local support groups, but couldn’t find anything. I felt at a complete loss.
It made me wonder how many others are feeling this way and why aren’t there available support groups? Instead of pondering too much over this I decided to be proactive and start a support group for BED myself.
I am hoping to commence the first support meeting in 2 months’ time and will be holding weekly evening sessions once a week. If you can relate to any of this and feel that this is something that would benefit you please read through my website and submit your details via the last contact page:
