How the UK will spend the most money on who and what this Christmas
The study unveils that whilst the UK might be a nation of generous gift-givers, they also truly love to treat themselves. Respondents admitted they regularly buy themselves gifts as a little “pick me up”, finding small ways to bring joy into their lives more often rather than waiting for a special occasion to treat themselves.

43% of women said they would buy a gift for their friend for Christmas, whereas only 35% of men said they would.

The UK population spend on average £9,639,813,562 (£142 pp) on a single gift for their partner, friend or family member.

A quarter of respondents said they spend more money on gifts for their pets than for the humans in their lives.

Phrases like ‘dog gifts’ are being searched for nearly 4,500 times per month.

The average time to gift a diamond to a partner is after 2.5 years.

There has been a 1500% increase in searches for ‘sustainable gifts’ since 2017.

26% of respondents said they are willing to spend between £51-£100 on themselves compared to just 14% willing to spend this same amount on a friend.

Those living in Greater London spend the most money on themselves, spending £150 on self-gifting on average.
