Tŷ Hafan is delighted to announce that acclaimed film, TV and stage actor Michael Sheen has joined us as our newest celebrity Ambassador.
Multiple award-winner Michael joins journalists and TV presenters Lucy and Rhodri Owen, and, Welsh International rugby player Leigh Halfpenny as our celebrity Ambassador team.
Their role includes advocating for Tŷ Hafan, helping to share our key messages, celebrate the achievements of our community and encourage new supporters.
Michael, father of Lily, 22, and two-year-old Lyra, made his first visit to our hospice in Sully on the South Wales coast on Thursday 7 October when he met some of the children in our care as well as a number of Tŷ Hafan staff.
Speaking during his visit, Michael, whose hit roles have included playing British politician Tony Blair, comic actor Kenneth Williams, TV personality David Frost and football manager Brian Clough, said: “Today is a special day for me because I’m very proud to say that I have just joined Team Tŷ Hafan as their newest Ambassador.
“Tŷ Hafan children’s hospice provides care and support for hundreds of children with life-limiting conditions and their families in Wales every year.
“To have to watch your child deal with a life-limiting condition is unthinkable. I know that Tŷ Hafan is a total lifeline for the children and families they work with.
“I’ll be doing what I can to support them, including helping them to spread the word about the wonderful work they do in their hospice here in Sully and throughout communities across Wales.”
Maria Timon Samra, Chief Executive of Tŷ Hafan, said: “We are honoured that Michael Sheen, a highly respected and very busy actor with a global following, has agreed to join Team Tŷ Hafan as our newest celebrity Ambassador.
“We know that Michael is a committed champion of social justice and we look forward to working with him as he supports our mission to make short lives, full lives.”
Michael is currently shortlisted for a Bafta Cymru Award for his role as quiz show host Chris Tarrant in the TV drama ‘Quiz’. He hopes to visit Tŷ Hafan again in the near future, when – Covid-permitting – he can meet even more of our children and families.
Maria Timon Samra added: “On behalf of the entire Tŷ Hafan community, I’d like to say thank you to Michael for taking on this hugely important role for us, good luck with the BAFTAs and your forthcoming filming – we are absolutely delighted to have you on board!”
