The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s Summer Rangers have been a familiar sight to many throughout the warmer months. Now, thanks to funding from the Welsh Government, with additional support from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Trust, Persimmon Homes and the Community Foundation in Wales, who have paid for additional resources for learning and exploring, the Summer Rangers are set to offer a wide variety of free activities this half-term.
During the busy summer season, Summer Rangers have been on hand to offer help, information and advice to residents and visitors at beaches and other key locations around the National Park. Some of the most important functions of these temporary roles include helping people to find out more about the area through free activities such as rockpooling, providing important guidance on things like tide times and issuing free resources.
With many more people visiting the area this year, they have also been able to offer guidance on alternative locations, as well as providing other local information to help alleviate overcrowding issues.
National Park Authority Ranger Service Manager, Libby Taylor, said: “Having four Summer Rangers this year has enabled us to cover a lot more of the coast and help more people enjoy and learn about the National Park, including why it’s important to tread lightly and leave no trace – messages that have become even more significant as more and more people visit the National Park.”
This half-term, however, the focus will be on fun and making the most of what the National Park has to offer during the off-peak season. A wide range of free activities are scheduled for October half-term, including rockpooling, Halloween scavenger hunts and many other autumnal activities.
Summer Rangers will be at the following locations during the school holidays:
Wednesday 27 October – Carew Castle
Thursday 28 October – Carew Tidal Mill
