Study Reveals Which Room Makes The Most Money On Instagram

November 2021: Home influencer accounts on Instagram have totally changed how we consume interior design. Instead of trawling through home magazines, most of us will head to our trusty network of Instagram interior design influencers to see how we can spruce up our homes. And in the age of influencer marketing, this has opened up a highly lucrative interior design influencer stream.

So, how profitable is interior style online? And, which rooms could see the highest earning potential opportunities online?

To uncover which rooms bring in the most earning potential, interior specialists Furniturebox analysed 25 of the top interior design Instagram influencers and evaluated their content from January 2019 – October 2021 to see which rooms featured the most on their feed and earned the most money. This was then used to calculate an estimated total earning per room, per year for each influencer, showcasing the jaw-dropping total earnings across the accounts:

#1 Living Room: Total Earnings £1,555,312.93 Per Year

In the top spot as the most photogenic and, more importantly, the most profitable room featured on Instagram is the living room, making over 1 million pounds per year for the top 25 influencers analysed!

Furniturebox’s analysis reviewed 1,766 photographs of living rooms across the 25 accounts that were posted in the 32-month window under review. In that time period, these living room snaps are estimated to have made a collective total of £4,147,501 for the group of influencers, the equivalent of £1,555,313 per year.

On average, a year’s worth of living room snaps has the potential to make each interior design Instagram influencer a cool £62,213 per year.

#2 Kitchen: Total Earnings £946,787.18 Per Year

In second place is the kitchen, or the heart of the home, which makes a total of £946,787 per year across the 25 accounts. This is an average potential earning of £37,871 per year for each influencer.

Surprisingly, snaps of kitchens were more popular than the dining room or bedroom, which are typically more aesthetically pleasing. Yet, the warming kitchen, with sparkling sinks, kitchen shelves and countertop details, stole second place in profitability per room.

#3 Bedroom: Total Earnings £827,713.25 Per Year

Bedrooms came in third place, with a total of £827,714 made per year for the top influencer accounts. The analysis also revealed each influencer had the average earning potential of £33,108.53 per year for images showcasing their bedroom’s interior style.

The top influencers for boudoir snaps are Emily Henderson (@em_henderson), Syd and Shea McGee (@studiomcgee) and Amber Lewis (@amberinteriors).

#4 Dining Room: Total Earnings £782,639.92 Per Year

The dining room secured fourth position totalling £782,639 per year, equating to a £31,305 per influencer, per year earning potential.

For those looking for dining room styling inspiration, influencer Niki Brantmark (@myscandinavianhome) is your best bet as dining room snaps take up 26.7% of her total images of main rooms. The analysis showed a huge 153 photos of dining rooms were posted on her feed from January 2019 to October 2021.

#5 Bathroom: Total Earnings £362,501.83 Per Year

Scrubbing up in fifth place is the humble bathroom, with a total earning potential of £362,501.83 per year across the top 25 home influencer accounts.

Bathtub snaps, splashback tiles and luxurious waterfall showers – or, perhaps even a pretty loo picture – all featured across the analysis and contributed to the bathroom’s £14,500 yearly earning potential for the average home influencer.

#6 Study: Total Earnings £145,188.81 Per Year

Fancy transforming your WFH space into an interior design side hustle? It could be surprisingly profitable, as the analysis showed the average earning across the top home influencers for study snaps was an estimated £5,807.55 per year.

The study was the least popular room featured on our influencers feeds, but nonetheless, our home offices still have a combined total of £145,188.81 per year for the top 25 accounts.

But, how do the earnings of some of our favourite home influencers fair per room?

Commenting on the research, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Furniturebox, Monty George noted:

“It’s spectacular to see the amazing earning potential a strong sense of interior design can bring to an individual. This study highlights the fresh and new career opportunities interior design and home improvements can bring, with home influencers building strong careers on the styling of their homes.

It’s great to also break down the popularity and earning potential of each individual room. I was certain we’d see the living room scoring highly, but for a staggering £4 million pounds to be potentially made across the top home influencer accounts in 32 months from living room pictures is huge! This highlights our public interest for a constant source of home styling inspiration and shows that this is a growing industry to feed the interior demand.”
