Caerphilly Council’s major investment into housing

Over the past 4 years council homes in the Caerphilly county borough have been transformed as part of the Welsh Housing Quality Standard programme, ensuring the authority is able to provide well managed, safe and warm homes in great communities.

Transforming homes and building new ones forms an important part of the council’s Place Shaping programme, an ambitious blue print to focus £500m worth of investment across the county borough. 

Leader of Council Cllr. Philippa Marsden said, “As a local authority, we remain as committed as ever to providing the highest quality of housing provision that our residents deserve. We have planned thoughtful investment throughout the county to cater for residents of all ages, from building new council homes; refurbishing existing properties to improving sheltered housing accommodation and improving access in homes.

She continued, “We have also spent £10.6m on the delivery of environmental improvements identified by tenants and residents. All 82 communities throughout the County Borough have had the opportunity to identify projects that they feel would increase the safety and attractiveness of their community. To date, over 300 projects have been approved including new skate parks, improved play facilities and parks, green gyms, additional car parking, drainage solutions, safety measures, street lighting, clean ups and multi-use games areas.”

Residents will be asked to play a vital role in helping to shape the proposals, by identifying the missing pieces of the jigsaw to ensure that the council is targeting its investment where it is needed most. Details of how the community can get involved will be announced in the near future.
