A series of free online sessions are helping unemployed women across Wales to find new work.

Run by gender equality charity Chwarae Teg, there are four sessions which are designed and suited to anyone feeling overawed and overwhelmed by the whole process of finding a job.

Nicola Kelly from Carmarthen has already taken part in a series of sessions and is happy to recommend them to other women, saying: “I have been unable to find employment after graduating with a first-class degree in photography, straight into the pandemic in 2020. However, the workshop provided me with group support and encouragement. My confidence and self-worth are higher, so I feel comfortable in broadening my job search to include jobs I didn’t think of applying for before. The sessions made me realise that I am not alone, I can replace my fears with positivity, and I am good enough to apply for that job.”

Each session, outlined below, is a safe space for women to open up and develop the confidence, tools and techniques that will enable them to approach job applications and potential interviews with a renewed energy:

  • Create a winning CV – expert guidance on how to create a CV with impact.
  • Get the interview, get the job – learn how to submit well matched and professional job applications and to prepare for a successful interview.
  • Change your Thinking, Get Results – explore what might be holding you back, learn how to stay focused and motivated when job searching.
  • Promote yourself and stand out – discover how personal branding and talking about yourself in a clear and authentic way can help you find the right job.

Rina Evans, Senior Delivery Partner, Chwarae Teg, said: “Losing your job can really affect your confidence, particularly in a time of so much change in our lives. That’s why these sessions have been specially designed to take account of the impact that unemployment can have on someone’s well-being and move women closer to permanent, paid employment or self-employment.”

The sessions will be running until February 2022, however booking early is advised to avoid missing out on a place.
