Helena Bonham Carter has been added to William Hill’s Time Lord market, priced at 33-1 to become the fourteenth Doctor Who.
Carter was initially added to bookies’ lists at 100-1 back in April, when Billie Piper, aka Rose Tyler, stated that the Harry Potter and Sweeney Todd star should take on the Time Lord role.
But after a recent announcement that Carter will be starring in ITV mini series Nolly, written by Russell T. Davies himself, which will uncover the truth about the channel’s series Crossroads, The Crown actor’s odds on William Hill are now 33-1.
Although perhaps too big for the role, a close eye will see that the Time Lord creator has a habit of cross casting, having cast two of his Doctors using the protagonists of his last two mini-series with David Tennant from Casanova and Christopher Eccleston from Second Coming.
As unofficial sources speculate the regeneration date to be New Year’s Day 2022, rumours continue to circulate on who will next open the doors to the Tardis.
It’s A Sin star Omari Douglas remains the favourite to take on the role, priced at 6-5, while costar Lydia West, who previously appeared in Russell T Davies’ showrun episodes of Doctor Who, follows closely behind at 5-2.
Voted fan favourite to land the vacancy, Hollywood star Michael Sheen was once joint favourite at 6-4, but is now priced at 3-1. Joining him was Years and Years singer and actor Olly Alexander, who has now been given a 4-1 chance.
Xena: Warrior Princess Lucy Lawless joins Years and Years’ T’Nia Miller at 9-1 to take on the Tardis, while I May Destroy You creator Michaela Coel shares 14-1 with Kiwi actor and comedian Rose Matafeo and Game of Thrones’ Hannah John-Kamen.
Travel man Richard Ayoade and Notting Hill clown Rhys Ifans are both priced at 16-1, joining a potential Doctor Who round two from former Time Lord himself David Tennant.
