Ammanford storm to a home win!

On a bitterly cold, rainy evening with the odd hail stones showers thrown in for good measure couldn’t dampen the intense football action at the Recreation Ground Ammanford.

One thing when you turn up on Friday evening’s under the Ammanford Recreation Ground lights is the expectation of seeing goals and this evening (26/11/2021) was no exception.

A good following from the visitors Trefelin ensured a noisy home stand shared with the home supporters of the Black and White Army.
The opening exchanges between the two sides were fairly even with both sides testing each other’s defensive lines.

It wasn’t until 17 minutes played that that the deadlock was broken. Ammanford’s Lee Trundle broke free into the Trefelin penalty area and as he attempted a turn he was adjudged by referee Jordan Harman to have been tripped up by the Trefelin defender and had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. The home crowd waited to see who was going to step to take the spot kick.

Ammanford’s Matthew Fisher stepped up and placed the ball on the penalty spot. The referee blew his whistle and Matthew Fisher blasted the ball high into the roof of the Trefelin net hitting it just under the crossbar and the ball slid down the net and nestled into the bottom corner. A perfectly placed penalty that gave Trefelin goalkeeper Keenan Bailey no chance of saving it

This game was coming to life with individual battles breaking out all over the pitch.
Trefelin’s elegant midfielder Jordan Davies was trying his best to pull the strings for his team whilst the steadfast Ammanford midfielder Anthony Finselbach was proving dominant in closing down the space in the midfield area. Ammanford’s Kai Whitmore was breaking free and had some golden chances to add further goals but instead turned provider for Ammanford’s paceman Tristan Jenkins to score in the 34th minute from close range 2-0

Ammanford were buoyant and with minutes to the half time whistle had to watch on as Trefelin’s Damon Thomas gathered the ball just inside the Ammanford half and hugging the touch line in front of the main stand powered forward virtually unopposed and as he closed in on the Ammanford goal simply curled the ball wide of Ammanford’s goalkeeper Craig Morris into the far corner of the net. A fine individual goal to bring Trefelin right back into the game 2-1

On the stroke of half time it was left to Ammanford’s goalkeeper Craig Morris to bring off an excellent save to preserve his team’s lead into the half time break to end a pulsating half of non stop action. Half Time 2-1

The second half started to build in action the same way as the first half had done. Ammanford seemed to be prospering more from a counter attacking game and springing forward at every opportunity. Ammanford’s Kai Whitmore broke free in the 56th minute and this time made no mistake by slotting the ball into the Trefelin net to extend his team’s lead 3-1

Two minutes later Kai Whitmore and Trefelin’s Joe Clarke had an altercation in the centre of the pitch which saw both players shown red cards by referee Jordan Harman.

A flurry of action was followed within a minute when Ammanford’s Tristan Jenkins broke free from his markers and rounded the Trefelin goalkeeper to score his second goal of the game 4-1.

Trefelin however to their credit continued to take the game to the home side and were rewarded for their efforts in the 65th minute when the Ammanford defence was split wide open enabling Ryan Griffiths to pull a goal back 4-2

Five minutes later Ammanford’s Lee Trundle Trundle broke free and ran to the edge of the Trefelin eighteen yards box, he nlooked up and played a beautifully weighted pass into the path of his incoming team mate Matthew Fisher who finished the move with a clinical finish into the Trefelin net and wheeled away in sheer delight in his celebration of his second goal of the evening 5-2

Trefelin again pressed forward and nine minutes from time hit their third goal of the game when Roan Piper scored 5-3.

Referee Jordan Harman who had a busy evening wasn’t quite finished when he brandished his third red card of the evening to Trefelin’s fiery Jamie Latham reducing the visitors down to nine men.

There were no further goals added as the final whistle blew and Ammanford celebrated the victory on what had been a stormy but highly enjoyable and entertaining game with credit going to both teams for their efforts.
