When 80-year-old Frank Palk wrote to his meal provider, Wiltshire Farm Foods, telling them how much he’d enjoy a ride in an iconic Ferrari, the team was determined to make his dream a reality.

Wiltshire Farm Foods has been on a mission this year to bring some much-needed sunshine to its customers around the country, and Ceredigion-based Frank was no exception.

Knowing how much he loved supercars, having enjoyed many a drive around Castle Coombe racing circuit when he was a boy, Wiltshire Farm Foods hired a Ferrari 360 Spider to travel to Frank’s Carmarthen home and take him on a drive to remember.

Frank was delighted with the trip, saying afterwards:

“I’ve never been in a Ferrari before and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.  My son wrote to Wiltshire Farm Food as part of its ‘Bringing Sunshine’ competition and we never thought we’d actually win!  I have a collection of 1,300 miniature cars, with a few Ferraris in there – being able to sit in the real thing was rather marvellous.”

This is the third experience the UK’s leading food provider has carried out for its Welsh customers, having gifted Pembrokeshire-based Sheila Lester with a framed autograph of ice-skating legends, Torvill and Dean and organising a Bob Marley tribute act for Swansea-based Rhys Williams.

Barney Symes, branch manager at Wiltshire Farm Foods Carmarthen, says:

“We were delighted to organise this Ferrari ride for Frank, especially knowing how much he loves his cars!  Our ‘Bringing Sunshine’ campaign has been a brilliant way of seeing how our customers are doing and spreading some joy with a variety of experiences for them.

“It’s been a tough year for many of them due to Covid, so giving them the opportunity to do something they really love means a great deal to myself and the team.”
