Stephanie and Sion cycle to raise over £500 for the Special Care
Baby Unit at Glangwili Hospital and charity Bliss

A year after their son Elgan was born prematurely and received urgent neonatal care at Glangwili Hospital, Stephanie and Sion Evans have raised a fantastic £525 for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and charity Bliss.

Throughout September 2021 Stephanie and Sion, both 29 and from Aberaeron, took part in Bliss’s ‘Go the Distance’ challenge, cycling 100 miles throughout the month.

Stephanie and Sion cycled local roads around Aberaeron as well as taking part in cycling sessions at the gym. Most of the cycles were completed together which allowed for plenty of mutual motivation!

Stephanie said: “We have chosen Glangwili Hospital and Bliss as our son Elgan was born prematurely and required urgent neonatal care for an extended time at Glangwili Hospital.

“Elgan, myself and my husband received fantastic information and support from Bliss and outstanding care from Glangwili’s neonatal team.

“We would like to thank everyone who supported us and donated within the local community.”

Elgan was born on 1st September 2020 and received vital care at Glangwili’s SCBU which is currently undergoing a transformation, with a new and improved unit set to open next year.

Accepting the cheque, Abigail Jones and Louise Hughes from Glangwili SCBU said: “We would like to say a really big thank you to Stephanie and Sion for the donation to the Special Care Baby Unit. It is especially touching as it arrived on World Prematurity Day (17/11/21).

“The donation will help us provide equipment and additional services for the babies and their families that come through the unit to make the time they spend in hospital more comfortable.”
