CETMA’s Megan and The Food Squad Project has been successful in receiving funding from RDP Sir Gar and its Leader Programme.
Funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales (2014-2020), the LEADER programme is designed to get local people, businesses and communities involved in delivering sustainable, yet innovative solutions to address some of the economic, social and environmental challenges facing rural areas.
In Carmarthenshire, the LEADER programme is being managed by the Grŵp Cefn Gwlad Local Action Group (LAG), which has developed a strategy which will provide the framework for LEADER activity within the County.

The project will benefit the communities of Kidwelly, St Ishmaels, Pembrey, Trimsaran, Llangyndeyrn, and Hendy. Project Officer Laura Williams said:
“Megan and the Food Squad is a means in which families can learn about growing food and eating well.”
“Megan is an 8 year old girl who wants to learn about growing food, food waste and eating healthy.”
As part of the project, several characters have been created which make up Megan’s food squad. These are:
Tomos the tomato is red and round, he always likes to mess around.
Lewis the leek is tall and sleek, and always wants to play hide and seek.
Afon the apple is green and red, she is always jumping out of bed!
Sian the strawberry is silly and sweet, she loves to dance to a good music beat!
Gwen the grape loves to help and learn, she is always willing to wait her turn.
Carwyn the carrot is orange and strong, he is always the first to start a sing song.
“We’ll be providing people with hints, tips and recipes, cutting down on food waste, and helping everyone eat healthy.
“Megan will be actively involved in growing the food, will post pictures, vlog and promote everything that she does.” Added Laura.
