“Tackling poverty should be at the top of every agenda, and we need action now” – Sioned Williams MS
Responding to the Bevan Foundation’s latest snapshot of poverty, which reveals that nearly four in ten Welsh households are struggling to make ends meet, Plaid Cymru’s spokesperson on social justice and equalities, Sioned Williams MS, said,
“The ‘perfect storm’ of rising costs and falling income is ravaging Wales. The latest figures from the Bevan Foundation lays bare the terrible truth already experienced by too many families across Wales: people are already having to cut back on the essentials we all need to live with dignity.
“Through the Co-operation Agreement between Plaid Cymru and Welsh Government, free school meals will be extended to all primary school pupils, which will be a transformational intervention in terms of child hunger and child poverty.
“That’s why it’s significant that Plaid Cymru’s motion passed in the Senedd yesterday, calling on Westminster and Welsh Government to secure the right to food. Tackling poverty should be at the top of every agenda, and we need action now.”
