1 in 100 homes in the UK are burgled each year ā€“ however, location impacts the odds of being burgled. The analysis revealed that Greater Manchester topped the list when it came to higher-than-average odds of being burgled, with 15.9 cases of burglary per 1,000 households. Making up the remainder of the top 10 included South Yorkshire (15.4), Cleveland (15.3), West Yorkshire (14.8), Metropolitan Police London (14.8), Humberside (13.3), Bedfordshire (11.4), Lancashire (10.7), Nottinghamshire (10.5), and Leicestershire (10.2).

When it came to lower-than-average odds of being burgled,Devon and Cornwall topped the list, with just 2.8 cases of burglary per 1,000 households. Making up the remainder of the top 10 included City of London (3.7), Dyfed-Powys (4.3), Norfolk (5.0), Wiltshire (5.5), Cumbria (5.6), North Yorkshire (5.6), Staffordshire (5.8), Dorset (5.9), and Sussex (6.1).

Ian Austick, MD at LED & Power commented:

ā€œWith winter bringing shorter days and darker evenings, our homes are at an increased risk of domestic burglary this season. Also, while most domestic burglaries occur when someone is at home, more than a third (35.9%) occur when the property is empty ā€“ so whether youā€™re planning to visit local loved ones, travel further afield to see relatives, or jet off on holiday this year, it is important that the festivities donā€™t compromise your home security this Christmas!

ā€œFlood lights are frequently used as security lights, often with a built-in sensor to detect activity. Our LED flood lights range is flicker-free, the 20w and 30w versions are particularly well suited to use alongside CCTV cameras, as well as our selection of LED Floodlights With PIRā€.
