Now that the ‘Great Resignation’ of 2021 has calmed, what will the UK be doing next to find relief from the daily grind?
Altitude Futures surveyed 1,000 UK working adults to discover whether they would be interested in a career break.
The overall findings showed that over a third of us Brits are considering taking a career break in 2022 – in fact, 32% have already made plans. Over half said it was to be able to relax (52%), followed by 48% wanting to see more of the world.
And of course, the pandemic had a huge impact on this decision, with 28% saying so. But Gen Z are feeling it the most, after 64% told Altitude Futures that the pandemic had changed their mind.
It’s essential to take vital time to look after your own health and wellbeing so it’s no wonder that 52% of those surveyed would like to relax if they take a career break.
The survey highlighted that 41% of us Brits want to use the time to develop personally on their career break, and 40% want to learn something new.
However, not all people in the UK feel the same, as worries of not being able to return to their workplace stopped 23% choosing a career break. Overall, 54% said no to a career break, and 20% of the respondents thought it could even impact their professional progression.
More specifically, Londoners are the most likely to say that they would consider taking a career break next year at 58%. 45% of those already have made plans to do so.
They are also most likely to say the pandemic changed their mind about taking a career break, with 42% saying it did.
