Sea Cadets Food Bank donation

Port Talbot Sea Cadets have been busy in the lead up to Christmas by answering a call for help from the local foodbank.

According to research, there are 2,000 foodbanks in the United Kingdom and this donation will go to Port Talbot Foodbank who are based in Carmel Chapel Riverside, Glan-yr-Afon, Port Talbot.

Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Rhodri Thomas who is the Unit Commanding Officer said:

“It’s really important for us to help the community and it was the cadets idea to organise a food collection for our Foodbank.”

“The cadets are at the heart of the community and if we can help other organisations then we will.”

The cadets collected a variety of food, from tinned pies, boxes of cereal to Long Life milk.

If anyone wishes to donate to Port Talbot Foodbank then they’re currently seeking donations of Christmas Treats, boxes of sweets and tins.

“The Cadets should feel so proud of themselves for collecting so much food and can now look forward to enjoying their last parade night before Christmas.” Added Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Thomas.

The Sea Cadets are open to children aged 10 to 18 and meet at the Old Harbour House, North Wharf, The Old Docks, Port Talbot SA13 1RH on Tuesday and Friday nights from 6.45 pm till 9pm.
