Not All Conventional Wisdom is Accurate

Men don’t generally like flowers, but that doesn’t mean there are no occasions where they are appropriate. You may be surprised to find that, in normal society, plenty of situations make giving a man flowers quite appropriate.

Also, some men really love floral arrangements, and this doesn’t diminish their masculinity one iota. On this list are eleven of the world’s most influential florists, and the majority of them are, in fact, male.Except for Gregor Lersch, they look a lot more masculine than you might expect. (Gregor would be more manly, but that hairstyle of his in the linked picture is…not something men would traditionally do with their hair in today’s world.) With that in mind, here are some occasions when flowers are perfectly fine to give to a man.

1. After a Promotion

When a man does well enough to earn a promotion, that’s a fine time to give him some flowers. All varieties of bouquets are appropriate.

Certainly, give gifts that fit the man—some gentlemen would be quite put out by a bouquet of flowers. Most men will see this as a sign of appreciation and celebration, though, and will genuinely like the gift.

2. At the Opening of a New Business

When a man opens a new business, that’s a transition into a larger world. During the grand opening, it’s common for wreaths and other floral arrangements to be given.

3. When He’s Getting Over an Illness

Even the most hardened conglomeration of whiskers and testosterone, with a name like Buck Granite, will appreciate get-well flowers. In fact, such floral arrangements tend to help someone get better for physical and psychological reasons.

Psychologically, the bloom of flowers encourages the mind to seek health to see such sights in the natural world again. Physically, the floral scents of flowers tend to be good for the mind. A smell can invite a physical response that’s positive.

4. As an Award in the Event He Wins Some Sort of Contest

Flowers are so common at the culmination of sporting events, the term “victory bouquet” is used to describe them. Now, certainly, men and women both compete in sporting events. That said, plenty of men place in plenty of events, and they’re certainly pleased to receive victory bouquets. Even if there’s a man in your life who isn’t competing in the Olympics, flowers are a perfectly appropriate gift should he win a contest of some variety.

Flowers Can Be Appropriate For a Man, Too

Awards for contests, be they physical or otherwise, are positively enhanced with flowers. For someone who is sick, flowers are also a fine gift. A man opening a new business will likely appreciate a wreath. In the wake of a promotion, flowers are also appropriate.

All these situations are fine opportunities to give men flowers without appearing awkward. Also, these are just a few of the many relevant situations where such gifts are appropriate. Just because he’s a man doesn’t mean his masculinity is threatened with a fine bouquet given at the right time.
