Adfer Energy Redress has recently launched its āWinter Campaignā at Penygroes Pavilion in the company of Jonathan Edwards MP along with housing agencies.
The Winter Campaign is part of Adfer Energy Redressā work to highlight the serious health risks apparent over the cold winter period when people are struggling to heat their homes sufficiently. Cold weather is an additional burden on households in the form of heating costs and puts people in difficult situations; some going into debt or having to choose between putting the heating on or having food on the table.
Household budgets are squeezed even further in light of the current situation where energy costs have risen steeply once again in recent months.
According to Adfer Energy Redress officer, Paul Thomas, āKeeping warm over the winter is a challenge for many households, but there is also a high risk of serious respiratory illness if people do not maintain a safe temperature of a minimum of 18Ė Celsius in the home. Energy costs are high at the moment, and people are struggling to budget. Having a home that is well insulated and an efficient heating system is especially important. Households need to service boilers and heating systems to ensure that they are efficient and dependable over the winterā
Adfer Energy Redress can offer house visits, practical energy efficiency advice and, in times of crisis, help to those in most need along with liaising with other support agencies such as foodbanks. We have temporary heaters available and work with households suffering energy debts or problems with their energy bills.
Adfer Energy Redress has a campaign in the local press, video clips to share on social media and will be holding roadshows across Carmarthenshire during the winter period.
The Welsh Government has recognised the high energy costs and is issuing support to people on low incomes via the Winter Fuel Support Scheme which will give people Ā£100 towards Energy Costs.
