Vale youngsters with disabilities benefit from fabulous Dow Silicones donations

• Dow Silicones funds ‘magic carpet’ and new hoists at Action for Children’s Ty Robin service in Barry
• Staff visit to see new equipment in action

Action for Children’s Vale Short Breaks, which provides respite care and support for children and young people who have learning or physical disabilities and their families at its Ty Robin base in Barry has invested in new hoists and a state-of-the-art Magic Carpet™ interactive floor thanks to a donation of over £20,000 from Dow Silicones, global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation.

Magic Carpet™ is an award-winning interactive projection system that displays motion responsive games and activities on to floors, tables and beds and offers a wide variety of stimulating content that is suitable for multi-sensory exploration, play, learning, therapy and relaxation.  The new hoists are an important part of the equipment at services like Ty Robin as they are used by carers to safely and easily lift children out of their beds and chairs or when administering personal care.

Leanne Richards and Sean Murphy from Dow Silicones visited Ty Robin to see the new equipment put through their paces and see for themselves how children and young people supported by the service, will benefit from their latest fundraising endeavour.

Laura Mason, registered manager at Ty Robin, said: ‘It is wonderful to benefit from this new equipment as they are so important to the children and young people who use our service.  Ty Robin is a haven for the children so stimulating games like those provided by the Magic Carpet have already become really popular.  The new hoists have also had a rapid transformative effect on the service and we’re so grateful to Dow Silicones for their generous donations, the difference they make to children and staff is enormous.’
