Action for Children’s Vikki Phillips has won the prestigious ScoutsCymru Inspirational Volunteer Award which was presented recently at the ScoutsCymru Celebration of Scouting Awards 2021.

Vikki, a family support practitioner for Pembrokeshire Young Carers, continued to plan and lead Pembrokeshire-wide Scouting events despite a very challenging year in terms of her personal health and Covid. She was up against 4 finalists from across Wales in the final round.

Recently, she led the planning and running of an Activity Day at Picton Castle where around 400 young people attended. Many leaders commented that it was the best activity day that Pembrokeshire Scouts has ever seen.

Vikki, from Haverfordwest, said: ‘I’m thrilled to have won this award.  Scouting is hugely rewarding in itself but to be recognised by my peers in Pembrokeshire and across Wales is very special indeed.  I would recommend anyone to get involved in volunteering with the Scouts, the opportunities for growth and development are endless and of course, the young people are what make it such a great pastime.’

Vikki’s manager and service coordinator for Action for Children’s Pembrokeshire cluster of services, Charlotte Phillips said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled Vikki has won this brilliant award.  Her commitment to young carers day in and day out is outstanding so I’m not at all surprised that is replicated in the Scouts movement.  She’s had a very difficult year in all manner of ways and her fortitude and passion is all the more remarkable for that.  We are exceptionally proud of her.  Congratulations Vikki on a hugely deserved award!’

ScoutsCymru supports over 15,000 young people in Wales to gain skills for life through exploration and adventure.  The awards celebrate and recognise the success of Scouts throughout Wales, who strive to do more, learn more and be more.

Pembrokeshire Scouts are always eager to welcome new volunteers. There are both uniformed and non-uniformed roles available.
