The UK’s DIY attitude is apparent with the most Googled ‘how to’ question. ‘How to make a Christmas Wreath’ implies that many UK residents wish to build their own front door decoration rather than buy one. Using natural materials can reduce the amount of plastic waste produced by artificial wreaths unwanted after the holiday period, instead producing garden waste. Tutorials are available online.

The question ‘How to decorate a Christmas tree’ comes second on the list. The scope of results for this question ranges from putting up a Christmas tree in three easy steps, to this year’s popular colours and themes for tree-decorating veterans. Sites like Pinterest offer inspiration for such festive looks.

The third question to appear on the list is ‘How to draw a Christmas tree’. There are many YouTube tutorials available to assist in such a task, perhaps to feature on the Christmas cards UK residents are eager to make, made apparent by ‘how to make Christmas cards’ appearing seventh on the list.

Other crafty questions appear throughout the list such as ‘how to make Christmas decorations’ at number four. Another good way to reuse materials, crafts are also a positive use of time to improve wellbeing and to engage in creative activities with members of family, friends, or household.

In fifth place, ‘how to make Christmas cookies’ is the highest culinary themed Christmas question on the list, beating ‘how to cook a Christmas turkey’ and ‘how to make a Christmas cake’. Festive cookies are commonly decorated with colourful icing in green, white and red, taking the shape of candy canes, stars, and Christmas trees.

A spokesperson from Design Bundles commented: “when It comes to Christmas, everybody needs a helping hand to create the ideal Christmas for their families, so it is no wonder that search engines are bombarded with a variety of Christmas-related questions to get ready for the big day. The UK opts for a DIY Christmas this year, with creative Christmas crafts and foods dominating the list of most Googled questions. Cooking and crafts are a great way to spend time with family, or as an individual a therapeutic activity to help escape the Christmas chaos.”
