A new study has revealed that ‘Asda’ is the UK’s most Googled supermarket for last-minute Christmas shopping and opening hours over the festive period.

Research by Kitchen equipment experts Maxima Kitchen Equipment analysed Google search data to discover the most searched for supermarket in the UK for their last-minute Christmas shop.

Asda places first as the most searched for supermarket when it comes to Christmas opening times with an average of 4,300 searches monthly. The search term ‘Asda Christmas opening times’ receives nearly double the queries of the second-placed supermarket. Asda has an ‘Extra Special Christmas dinner’ range that boasts award-winning products such as Extra special pork, honey & oak smoked bacon stuffing wreath. They also have a save a third on fizz and bubbly, perfect for a party with family.

The second most popular supermarket for a last-minute food shop and over Christmas opening hours is Aldi. The interest in Aldi has grown steadily since 2016.  

Sainsbury’s places third with a monthly search volume of 1,900. Sainsburys has announced they are closing on 26th December.

Tesco was revealed as the fourth most popular, with the supermarket having 1,100 monthly searches for its Christmas opening times.

The research also analysed Google Trends to discover when the nation starts planning its Christmas feast, with the interest in ‘Christmas opening times’’ typically exploding in searches from the 23rd – 29th December.  

In 2018, ‘Asda Christmas opening times’ saw it’s highest peak out of the past five years. It has also seen an incredible spike in searches when compared to each supermarket.

In 2019 for example, Asda Christmas opening times saw a 338% increase in searches compared to the nation’s second most popular supermarket choice, Lidl.

A spokesperson from Maxima Kitchen Equipment said “Christmas can be an incredibly exciting time, and a profitable one for supermarkets. It is interesting to see the supermarkets that are in the nation’s eye for last-minute bits, or a dash to the shops over the festive period. Some of the less prominent supermarkets seem to be winning the race this year.”
