Two stone memorials which commemorate former pupils of Tregaron Secondary School who lost their lives in the two World Wars will be relocated to Ysgol Henry Richard.

The stone tablets are war memorials and are recorded in the UK National Inventory of War Memorials. They are currently placed at Tregaron Old County School, which is owned by ā€˜The Old County School, Tregaronā€™ and will be sold shortly by Ceredigion County Council as the trustee of the property.

Therefore, a new home was needed for the stone memorials and a public consultation was held for four weeks in November to gather local peopleā€™s opinions on where they should be placed.

During a meeting of the Charity Trustee Committee held virtually on Thursday, 16 December 2021, it was confirmed that 72 responses were submitted. It was announced that the stone tablets will be moved to Ysgol Henry Richard in line with the clear majority outlined in the consultation.

Councillor Catherine Hughes, Cabinet Member and Councillor for Tregaron, said: ā€œAs the Local Member and Governor at Ysgol Henry Richard, Iā€™m very pleased of the decision to move these stone memorials to the school so that they can be seen, remembered and honoured. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation in order to ensure that the stone memorials are placed in the best home possible for them to safeguard them for the future. Itā€™s important that they get a deserving place in our area as a mark of our respect and as we remember those who lost their livesā€.

It was added that the Headteacher of Ysgol Henry Richard had confirmed that the school would welcome the stone tablets.
