Analysis of Google search data reveals that online searches for ‘How to stop stress’ increased 818% in the United Kingdom on the 18th of January, after Blue Monday. 

A new finding by Income Tax UK reveals that online searches for ‘How to stop stress’ skyrocketed to over eight times the average volume one day, an unprecedented spike in people Googling for advice to combat stress, according to analysis of Google search data.   

Reported to be the most depressing and stressful time of the year, Blue Monday occurs on the third Monday of every January, the most common period for stressful times to increase as people try to focus on getting back on track in the new year. 

A spokesperson for Income Tax UK commented on the findings:  

“Every January searches for advice on stress and wellbeing peak as many people struggle to get back to a productive and normal work life after the holiday period, with this year being no exception due to multiple factors such as the rise in the cost-of-living and the pandemic. 

However, this data highlights the hope that more and more people are seeking advice as well as sharing their struggles through the internet and social media in the hopes of combatting their stress at a difficult time.”
