Walking Land’s End to John O’Groats via Caerleon raises over £800 for Action for Children

Maria Jones, a Caerleon foster mum for Action for Children has walked from Land’s End to John O’Groats for the charity without leaving her locale, raising over £800 in the process.

Maria virtually walked the 1,083 miles on her treadmill and out locally to boost her physical, emotional and mental health through the pandemic as well as raising money for Action for Children.  She used the Conqueror Events service that tracked her progress and planted 5 trees on her behalf.

Maria said: ‘I started the challenge on the 4th January 2021 and the aim was to walk 3 miles per day to complete the challenge within the year.  I mixed it up with running too throughout the year and I’m delighted to have completed the challenge and raise over £800.  As a fostering family for Action for Children we see first-hand the difference it makes when a child is safe, loved and championed on to be all they were created to be and I know this money will make an immediate impact to those who need it.’

Maria works for the Pobl Group, looking after the wellbeing of 2,700 staff there and is no stranger to charity challenges.  She completed a sponsored ‘Brave the Shave’ with her daughter in 2016 and raised £3,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
