- 38% of homeowners in Wales are hoping to lower their energy bills and cut rising costs through home décor purchases, a new nationwide survey has revealed.
- The survey, conducted by Blinds Direct, uncovers the region’s attitudes towards sustainable products and materials when decorating their homes.
- Other important factors for homeowners in the region before purchasing a sustainable décor product included the cost (48%) and the quality (45%).
- An expected increase in energy bills has forced homeowners to look for alternative ways to reduce costs through individual means – including home improvements.
A third (34%) of homeowners in Wales consider reducing their energy costs a priority when it comes to purchasing sustainable home décor products, a new survey can reveal.
The Sustainability survey, conducted by Blinds Direct, asked homeowners across the UK about their receptiveness to purchasing sustainable products, and what their key concerns are when doing so, to reveal their attitude towards eco-friendly home décor.
The survey revealed that homeowners in Wales are concerned about rising energy bills, and as a result look to reduce costs through their décor purchases.
A surge in global energy markets triggered one of the steepest energy bill hikes late last year, leaving many across the UK concerned about their everyday costs.
As well as reducing energy costs, other important factors for Welsh homeowners behind purchasing sustainable décor products include the cost (48%) followed by the quality of a product (45%).
The Sustainability survey also asked UK homeowners on whether their attitudes towards purchasing eco-friendly home décor products have shifted at all over the past 5 years.
Over two fifths (41%) of homeowners in Wales reported that they are now more receptive to buying sustainable products compared to five years ago.
Although, over a third (38%) report no change in attitude, which could be attributed to the cost of more sustainable products. With 48% of Welsh respondents noting the cost as an important buying factor, this points to the issue of accessibility of sustainable living.
Ana Zuravliova, Trend Specialist at Blinds Direct, commented on the survey, saying: “”The onus is definitely on retailers to offer sustainable alternatives that are both aesthetic and inexpensive, like our wooden blinds, in order to meet consumer expectations and ensure making eco-friendly choices is more accessible.”
