Freya and Teddy are the most popular baby names in the UK based on Valentine’s Day.  

Research conducted by online gaming review expert CasinoGuide analysed the most recent data from ONS and baby name website, Nameberry to establish which Valentine’s Day-related baby name is the most popular, with Freya and Teddy taking the top spots.   

Freya is a girl’s name originating from the Norwegian meaning, a “Noble Woman” and the name of the Norse Goddess of love, beauty and fertility. It ranks as the most popular girl’s name inspired by Valentine’s Day with 1,982 babies born in 2020. According to Nameberry, Freya has been one of the fastest-rising names, with popularity spiking in England and Wales. It is predicted that it will see a meteoric rise in future years.   

Teddy, meaning “gift of God” placed as the second most popular Valentine’s inspired baby name in the UK. It is associated with Valentine’s Day with its relation to the popular gift of affection. The name ranked highly on ONS data for the number of children born in the UK with that name - a total of 1,627 in 2020. 

Esme is a French name translating to “beloved” and is the third most popular baby girl’s name in the UK inspired by Valentine’s Day. 3,888 babies were born in 2020 with this name. 

Coming in as the fourth most popular Valentine’s related baby name is Violet; a soft and sweet name, related to the flower. In 2020, 962 babies were born with this name. British actress Emily Blunt and her husband John Krasinski welcomed their daughter named Violet in June of 2020. 

Scarlett places as the fifth most popular Valentine’s inspired name, relating to the striking, romantic colour. It has seen steady popularity from 2009 to 2020 with 942 babies born in 2020. 

Rose is the sixth most popular name and has a Latin origin meaning of “rose, a flower” – an extremely popular gift of love. 803 babies were born in 2020 with the name Rose: including Stacey Solomon’s daughter born on October 4th, 2020.  

Mabel comes in as the seventh most popular Valentine’s related name with 768 babies born to this name in 2020. Mabel has the celebrity seal of approval as it has been chosen for both Bruce Willis and Dermot Mulroney’s daughters. 

Beau both place eight in popularity of baby names inspired by Valentine’s Day with 419 babies born in 2020 with this name. Beau is an extremely popular middle name with hundreds of variations seen in 2020, according to ONS. 

Cleo is the ninth most popular name with 277 babies born in 2020. Actress Christina Ricci, famous for her part in The Addam’s family, named her daughter Cleo, short for Cleopatra. This is related to Valentine’s Day with the inspiration from the legendary love story between Antony and Cleopatra.  

Lacey places tenth and is associated with femininity with 203 babies born in 2020 with this name.  

According to ONS data, the name ‘Valentine’ narrowly misses out on the top ten baby names, alongside Romeo, Beau and Amora. 

Other strong names include Wolf, as chosen by Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott for their son. In the UK, there were 30 babies born to this name, but it is predicted to rise exponentially after having the ‘Kardashian’ nod of approval.
