New data reveals that going to the other person’s house on a first date is the biggest opinion divider between men and women.  

The study was carried out by online gaming review expert Lucky Creek, which examined a YouGov survey on first date activities to find out the differences between men and women on first date activity preferences.

Going to the other person’s house causes the biggest divide in opinion between men and women when it comes to a first date and having the other person come to your home follows closely behind in second. According to Britons, men are twice as likely (50.5%) as women to go to their date’s home or have them come to your home on a first date. Just over a quarter (27%) of women say this is totally acceptable whereas, 64% respectively see it as totally unacceptable on a first date with someone.

The third most divisive activity between men and women on a first date is sleeping in the same bed and having sex. Nearly half of men (46%) voted sleeping in the same bed as totally acceptable with 45% saying the same for having sex. According to women however, only 29% think sleeping in the same bed is totally acceptable with 28% thinking the same for having sex.

Further down the list is meeting the other person’s family or having them meet your family. While a quarter (24%) of men say it is acceptable to meet the family or vice versa, only 11% of women agree, leaving 80% in disagreement and 9% unsure.

The fifth biggest divide in opinions is whether you should take someone as a plus one to a wedding for a first date. Around 25% of women see this as totally acceptable compared to around 32% of men.

The most favoured type of first date for both men and women is going for a coffee. 92% of men and 95% of women see this as a totally acceptable activity to do for a first date. The second most preferred first date activity for both men and women is going out for dinner. 95% of women and 90% of men voted this activity as a totally suitable type of first date.

A spokesperson for Lucky Creek commented on the findings: “Each year, Brits will collectively spend around £1.45 billion on Valentine’s Day whether that’s to celebrate friendships or romantic relationships, so as it is February, the month of love, this data provides an interesting outlook on gender differences when it comes to what men and women classify as a good or bad first date activity. It is also fascinating to see that despite changes in society such as the pandemic and lockdowns, people still prefer more traditional types of in-person first dates such as going for dinner or coffee”.
