Caerphilly Keys, a pioneering private sector leasing scheme, is set to continue its work preventing homelessness.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet gave approval for the initiative to continue being delivered by its Housing Solutions Team.

The team has successfully delivered Caerphilly Keys for over three years; matching people to suitable properties and providing support to both the tenant and landlord to sustain the tenancy.

There are currently over 100 properties registered with the scheme and the project has helped many families and individuals who would otherwise have found themselves homeless, including rehousing those who were previously rough sleeping.

Cllr Shayne Cook, the council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care and Housing, said “Caerphilly Keys was the first of its kind for a local authority in Wales and we’re very pleased to announce that we will continue its delivery and aim to build upon its previous successes.

“With over 50 landlords currently registered with Caerphilly Keys, the scheme is a well established and trusted model.  It offers a wealth of benefits and has a proven track record in preventing homelessness, whilst also helping private landlords find suitable tenants for their homes.”
