St David’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate language and culture in Ceredigion, and this year there is a special opportunity to look forward to one of Europe’s largest cultural festivals which will be visiting the county in August; the National Eisteddfod.
2022 will be an exciting year for Ceredigion after having to postpone the Eisteddfod in 2020 due to the pandemic, and Ceredigion County Council is keen to ensure opportunities that will make it easier than ever for anyone to enjoy the language and culture of the county.
Over the coming months, the Council will be working closely with the National Eisteddfod team to ensure a vibrant festival, with events and activities for the whole family. Covering all aspects of Welsh art and culture, the Eisteddfod is an inclusive and welcoming festival, attracting thousands of Welsh learners and those who do not speak the language as well as Welsh speakers each year.
As Ceredigion prepares to host this important festival in Tregaron, we want to ensure that we offer a Welsh welcome. We would like to remind you that you can receive services in Welsh when contacting the Council, by telephone, face-to-face, by e-mail, on the web and of course via social media. The Welsh language belongs to us all, and we want to appeal to the residents of Ceredigion to use the Welsh language service available to them.
Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, Leader of Ceredigion County Council, said: “Ceredigion County Council is proud to support arrangements for the National Eisteddfod to be held in Tregaron during the first week of August this year. The Eisteddfod is a cornerstone of the Welsh language, offering important opportunities for people to speak the language and to boost their confidence in it. It also offers an opportunity to attract non-Welsh speakers to the language and for Welsh learners to practise using it. As a county rich in Welsh tradition and culture, now is the ideal time to use the Welsh language in public and reflect the vibrancy of Ceredigion’s thriving language. We want to encourage you to use the Welsh language services available to you through Ceredigion County Council.”
