Responding to the publication of Welsh Government’s Plan for Employability and Skills today (Tuesday 8 March 2022), Wales TUC General Secretary Shavanah Taj said:
“Welsh Government’s vision to make work fairer and develop a highly-skilled workforce clearly comes through in this plan. We strongly welcome the shift in focus on to the quality of jobs, and clear actions to improve this.
“The plan also rightly highlights what more can be done to address inequalities. Prioritising employability support for young people, unemployed people and those in lower-paid jobs recognisees existing labour market failures, as does the commitment to explore legislating on gender, race and disability pay gaps.
“This progressive approach is especially welcome given the wider challenges, including the cost of living crisis and the UK government’s failure to fulfil their manifesto pledge on the replacement for EU funds, meaning Wales will be £1 billion worse off by 2024.”
