At a Governance and Audit Committee virtual meeting held on 10 March 2022, Professor Ian Roffe was given recognition for service as lay member to the Committee for almost 10 years, from 2012 until 2022.

A plaque was presented to him on Friday 11 March by Committee Chair Councillor Elizabeth Evans. She said: “Ian has been a much valued member of our committee for over ten years, and we have benefited greatly from his experience of governance and audit work. As the Chair, I have enjoyed a close working relationship with Ian and have always appreciated his sound advice. I think I can speak for the whole committee in expressing our gratitude for his contribution.”

Three new independent members, Alan Davies, Caroline Whitby and Liam Hull have been appointed to the Committee from 5 May 2022.

Eifion Evans, Chief Executive of Ceredigion County Council said: “Ceredigion County Council has benefitted from a decade of advice and considerations provided by Professor Roffe. We welcome the new members of the committee and their input to the function of the Committee will be greatly appreciated.”

Ceredigion County Council Chairman, Councillor Paul Hinge, said: “Our sincere thanks go to Professor Roffe, who has given his time and vast experience in contributing to the work of the Governance and Audit Committee, as he steps down we welcome the new lay members to this most important committee and wish them well in the work they carry out.”

Governance and Audit Committees of local authorities exist to provide to those charged with governance independent assurance on the adequacy of the Council’s risk management framework, internal control environment and integrity of the financial reporting and annual governance processes. They are necessary to satisfy the wider requirements for sound financial requirements and internal control, which the public rightly expect from their elected representatives.

The Committee is currently made up of 6 County Councillors and 1 Lay Member but, to comply with recent legislation, from 5 May 2022 the committee will have 6 County Councillors and 3 Lay Members involved.

Further information regarding the Committee, including the schedule of meetings, reports and agendas can be found on the Council website: https://council.ceredigion.gov.uk/mgCommitteeDetails.aspx?ID=147&LLL=0.
