With many test centres not offering tests after 3pm however, the best widely available test slot is typically between 9am and 10am, with a pass rate of 52%.

Being a night owl is unlikely to be a helpful trait when taking a driving test, as less than a third of drivers who take their test after 7pm pass their test (30%).
Early birds also struggle, with just over one in three (38%) of those who take their test between 6am and 7am receiving their pink licence.
Despite being busier with commuters, mornings are generally a good time to book your driving test, as every hourly slot from 8am onwards has an average pass rate higher than 50%.

Liz Laidler, Head of Learner Driver Products at Collingwood Insurance Services UK Ltd, said:
“Booking in a driving test is a daunting time for anyone with ambitions to get behind the wheel, and this data is an interesting snapshot of the differences between urban and rural driving.
“Nevertheless, accidents can happen at any time and any place on the roads, and while drivers can minimise their chances of an accident by driving carefully and considerately, having a suitable insurance product is essential to ensure that you are protected against anything that happens on the road.
“Good luck to anyone looking to pass their test in the near future and remember that practice makes perfect!”
