Asda beats the likes of Aldi and Lidl to earn the crown as the cheapest UK supermarket to buy your full English breakfast essentials from, new data has uncovered.

Consumer finance experts at CashLady.com investigated the prices of key fry-up ingredients at nine leading supermarkets to help consumers get the best deal on the beloved British breakfast.

The supermarkets were then ranked from one to nine in terms of their value for money, with one being the cheapest and nine the most expensive.

The items included in the analyses are enough to feed a family of four, and consist of:

  • Eggs
  • Bacon
  • Beans
  • A loaf of bread
  • Black pudding
  • Hash browns
  • Ketchup
  • Brown sauce
  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Mushrooms

The results concluded that Asda is the cheapest place to source your fry-up essentials, costing just £6.70 in total – that’s £1.68 per person!

This is less than HALF the cost of a full English shop at the likes of M&S and Waitrose. Surprisingly, Asda even beat Aldi who placed second and Lidl who ranked in fourth.

The most expensive fry-up staples can be found at the Co-op, where your breakfast will set you back a whopping £15.75.

Commenting on the findings, CashLady.com’s Consumer Finance Expert, Paul Wilson, said:

“A full English breakfast is a beloved staple in the UK, but buying every item at once can make the tradition incredibly costly. That’s why we wanted to crunch the numbers to find where you can get all of the key ingredients at the cheapest cost, without having to hop around different supermarkets.”

“When you’re trying to save, research and preparation is key. Investigating price comparisons and seeking out bargains before a shopping trip will help you to make more informed buying decisions, and saving money on the most important meal of the day will undoubtedly make it taste even better!”
