Exploring the various activities available when on a ski trip for non-skiers

Altitude ski school has explored various activities that are available when on a ski trip, besides skiing itself such as ski touring, artificial surfing, mountain meals, and apres-ski.

Ski Touring

Ski touring dates back to 1555 and is skiing in unmarked or unpatrolled areas, usually outside resorts with a stronger emphasis on freedom and exploration. It offers people the best mix of exploration and skiing and is perfect for anyone who wants to fully explore the picturesque mountains.

Mountain Meal

The majority of ski resorts have cabin-style restaurants that allow resort residents to sample delicious food whilst taking in the stunning surroundings. The food served in these restaurants tends to differ depending on the continent. However, the wooden architecture and natural snowy mountain tops are an unmatching experience wherever in the world the ski resort is located.

Sledging

Sledging is a popular snow activity that even those who have never skied before will be aware of. Similar to skiing, sledging is the act of travelling down a snowy slope or mountainside on a sledge.

Sledging is great for all levels as it is one of the easier snow activities, the participant is seated and is, therefore, more in control of their direction and speed.

Artificial Surfing

Artificial surfing may come as a surprise for many as potential activity on a ski trip. It is the perfect way to mix your ski holiday with some of the best aspects of a beach holiday.

Alaia Bay which is based in the Swiss Alps offers visitors the opportunity to surf in a facility based in the mountains next to the ski slopes.

Apres Ski Drinks

Apres-ski drinks are the best way to relax after a long day of skiing. Apres-ski translates from French to ‘after ski’ and is the time for socialising with friends and taking in the breathtaking surroundings.

There is a selection of bars at most ski resorts to have a drink, however, for those who want a more relaxing holiday, many resorts offer spa and lounge options.

Director Jon West said: “We are aware that not everyone can or wants to ski when they go to a ski resort, so we wanted to show them the other options available to them.

“We really wanted to demonstrate that there is so much more to ski holidays than simply skiing, you can even try out artificial surfing!

“We hope that we save people some time on their research before they go on their next holiday in the knowledge they have so many fun activities available to them.”
