New research has revealed the Most Popular Music Video inspired by Video Games, with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘Californication’ taking the top spot.

Gaming experts at i’m-a-puzzle have revealed the ‘Most Popular Music Videos’ inspired by Video Games by analysing each artist’s official video on YouTube based on the number of video views, likes and comments.

First place goes to the Red Hot Chili Peppers with their gaming-inspired music video for ‘Californication’, which has 925 million video views. After its release in late October 2009, the video has raked in an impressive 3.9 million likes and 116,338 comments securing the band’s first place spot. As well as the highly successful video, ‘Californication’ has the most Spotify streams in the rankings with more than 896 million plays. The music video features a fictional Grand Theft Auto-style open-world video game where each member of the band explores California.

Eminem secures his second-place spot with his gaming-inspired music video for ‘Survival’, where Eminem raps in front of ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ footage which plays on a projector. Released in early October 2013, the ‘Survival’ video has an impressive 174 million views alongside hitting 1.4 million likes. The video also has the highest number of comments in the rankings with 152,966.

Third place goes to Travis Scott & Kid Cudi with their collaboration ‘THE SCOTTS’. in which the music video features a digital Travis Scott playing a concert for players in the game ‘Fortnite’ while in space. The track premiered in Fortnite and the music video was released in April 2020, securing its spot in third with over 60 million views. The likes and comments on the video also reach high numbers with 1.8 million likes and 53,351 comments.

Junior Senior with ‘Move Your Feet’ comes in fourth place, with 66 million video views and 843,000 likes. The video also has just over 30,571 comments after releasing in March 2011. The music video features the members of Junior Senior as animated characters alongside inanimate objects and dancing figures.

Paloma Mami takes fifth place with her music video for ‘Goteo’, released in April 2020. Views for this video sit at 16.2 million alongside 247,000 likes and 17,202 comments. The music video features a blue-haired Paloma Mami in a robot-like outfit in a virtual world of street-fighting.

In sixth place is Goldfish with their music video for ‘We Come Together’. With video views sitting at 15.9 million views, likes at 148,000 and comments at 7,995 after its release back in May 2011.

50 Cent secures seventh place with the oldest music video in the rankings, with ‘Heat’ released in January 2009. ‘Heat’ has racked up 18.5 million views131,000 likes and 5,828 comments.

Eighth place is given to Sia with her music video for ‘You’ve Changed’ securing 23.3 million video views, 94,000 likes and 4,484 comments after its video release in March 2011.

Coming in at ninth place is Nero with their music video for ‘Me and You’, which was released in December 2010. The video has 13.7 million views70,000 likes and 7,475 comments.

In tenth place is Missy Elliot with her gaming-inspired music video for ‘Sock it 2 Me’ after its release in late October 2009. Missy Elliot has secured 103,000 likes on the video and 5,818 comments.
