Very little to choose between two very competitive teams at Underhill Park Mumbles in this West Wales Premier League Cup game for a place in the semi-final against Penlan.
The first half saw Dafen FC take the lead in this cup tie in the 32nd minute when Rangers goalkeeper Geraint Davies was adjudged to have pushed a Dafen player over. Up stepped Dafen’s Lennon Evans who scored from the penalty kick. 0-1 It took Rangers just seven minutes later to get an equaliser as Rangers midfielder Colin Harris set up his Captain Chrissy Allen to score. 1-1 No more goals in the first half.
The second half saw Dafen “The Bluebirds” re-take the lead in the 53rd minute when Ranger’s keeper Geraint Davies could only parry a shot at goal which fell into the path of Dafen’s Elliott Jones to apply the finish. 1-2 Ironically it was seven minutes on when Rangers Captain Chrissy Allen got his second goal of the game after some good work from team mate Jordan Lloyd-Evans.
2-2 The two teams could not be separated as the final whistle blew for full time. Even after two period of extra time neither side could find a winner. A nervous penalty shootout took place and it was honours to Mumbles Rangers keeper Geraint Davies who made two good stops to enable Rangers to come out on top by 7-6 An excellent cup tie at Underhill Park.
