Analysis of Google search data reveals that searches for ‘petrol stations near me’ soared by 850% in the early hours of 11th April. As well as fuel prices currently being extremely high, there are now shortages being reported at some stations across the country.

A spokesperson for car insurance experts CarInsurance.ae which conducted the research said:

“Some drivers have reported fuel shortages for both petrol and diesel, potentially caused by climate protesters who are attempting to block UK fuel supplies. This data shows a sudden explosion in searches for local petrol stations, as people struggle to find fuel nearby.

“Hopefully, this increased demand will not lead to even higher fuel prices than we see already, or the same long queues we saw at the end of last year.”
