Snowdonia is one of the TOP rural destination for UK Holidaymakers this Easter

It’s The Great Easter Escape and Snowdonia is one of the most popular Eastercation destinations  

Britons are expected to collectively spend £13 billion on their Eastercations which is great news for the UK hospitality sector and for the Welsh economy  

The nation is gearing up to enjoy the first Easter without Covid restrictions in two years, with (47%) of Britons taking an Easter holiday and Derbyshire, home to its wooded dales, sweeping landscapes and majestic underground caverns, is the top Eastercation destination for many Britons.

Visiting the Great British Countryside is Britons top choice for an Easter break this year with 34% of holidaymakers escaping to rural destinations. Topping the rural Eastercation poll is Derbyshire, – the ‘King of the Country’.

Britain’s most popular rural resort The Scottish Highlands, the mountainous region encompassing northwest Scotland with Loch Ness at its heart, takes second place in the Easter rural breaks poll, followed by the Lake District which is home to rugged hills and stunning lakeland views in third.

The region of South Wales, renowned for its spectacular scenery and beautiful beaches takes fourth place in the Eastercation Destination Poll.      

The Cotswolds, famous for its golden stones, rolling hills, quintessential British villages and the ‘wolds’, completes the top five placements in the top Eastercation rural destinations charts.  

The average holidaymaker visiting Snowdonia this Easter is expected to spend on average £322.69 and will be taking a four day break.

Collectively Britons are expected to boost the UK economy by £13 billion via their Eastercation breaks. These findings have been revealed in the first segment of the 2022 Travelodge Travel Index. The hotel chain surveyed 2,000 British adults to find out their Easter holiday plans and key findings revealed the top ten rural destinations Britons are visiting this Easter are:

1.     Derbyshire

2.     The Scottish Highlands

3.     Lake District

4.     South Wales

5.     The Cotswolds

6.     Yorkshire Dales

7.     Snowdonia

8.     Exmoor

9.     The Peak District

10.  The Norfolk Broads 

Further research findings revealed 25% of Britons reported that they are taking a Staycation so that they can support the UK hospitality industry and local tourism hotspots such as Snowdonia. 

Sixty four per cent (64%) of Britons stated that they are taking an Easter escape as they have had a stressful start to 2022 and they want to get away from all the gloom and doom that is currently happening in the world.

Over a fifth (21%) of Britons are taking an Easter break in case they cannot afford to go away later in the year due to rising costs.    

Nearly a quarter (23%) of Britons reported that their forthcoming Easter break is the first holiday that they have had since the start of the pandemic started two years ago.  Interestingly 68% of Britons reported that they are still fearful of traveling abroad due to impact and risks associated with Covid-19.

Interestingly 30% of respondents surveyed reported that they are taking an Easter break so that they can enjoy the beauty of the UK at spring time.   

Nearly four out of ten (39%) Britons reported that they are taking full advantage of the Easter holidays and taking two Staycation holidays.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge Spokeswoman said: “Our latest Travel Index shows the Staycation is set to be big again in 2022 with the Eastercation kick starting the 2022 holiday season with a boost of £13 billion. This is not only great news for the UK hospitality sector but also for regional holiday hotspots such as Snowdonia which is one of the top Eastercation destinations this year.”  

“Our 579 UK hotel teams from Fort William to Newquay are getting very egg-cited for a busy Easter trading period; and research shows on average Travelodge customers will spend double their room rate with local businesses which can generate an annual multi-million pound boost for local economies.”  

The Travelodge Travel Index also revealed the second most popular type of holiday this Easter is spending quality time with the family – with 32% of Britons taking a short break to see their family this holiday season.  

In joint third place is a rural and city break this Easter – with 31% of Britons escaping to the countryside to explore what makes Great Britain so Great at spring time or exploring one of the UK’s 69 cities that are steeped in history.

Further research findings revealed that a quarter (25%) of parents reported that it is more cost effective to take their children away on a Minication than keeping them entertained at home during the Easter holidays.

A fifth of parents also reported that taking an Easter break is a great way to educate their children on what makes Great Britain so great.   

Other key findings from the 2022 Travelodge Travel report revealed the UK’s most extravagant Eastercationers are Sheffielders who are spending £565 on their Eastercation. This is £242.31 more than the average spend of £322.69.

Cardiffians are the second biggest spenders – spending £525 on their Eastercation break and Sotonians (residents from Southampton) take third place by splashing £470 on their Easter escape. 

Glaswegians take fourth place by spending £433 on their Easter holiday and Brummies take fifth place by spending on average £401 on their Eastercation.
