Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the most searched Star Wars video game worldwide, new research has revealed.
The study by gaming site Solitaired analysed the number of monthly online Google, YouTube, Bing and Yahoo searches for each Star Wars video game since 1982 to reveal the games that people have searched for the most.
Analysis of the data revealed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the most searched Star Wars video game, with an average of 1,251,170 worldwide searches each month. The game was developed by Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind the Titanfall series and Apex Legends, and was originally released on Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2019, Stadia in November 2020 and PlayStation 5 Xbox Series X and Series S in June 2021. Fallen Order is a single-player action adventure game that takes place five years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The player follows Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis, who is targeted by the Galactic Empire while training.
The second most searched game is action shooter Star Wars Battlefront II, which has been searched on average 803,610 times each month. The game is the fourth instalment in the Star Wars: Battlefront series, set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Players follow Imperial commander Iden Versio, played by Janina Gavankar, who is captured by the Rebel Alliance and begins to question her allegiance to the Empire. Battlefront II was developed by DICE, Criterion Games and Motive Studios for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and was published by Electronic Arts in 2017. Battlefront II had a controversial launch at first, with Electronic Arts even earning a world record for the most downvoted Reddit comment of all time after it tried to justify the cost of purchasing in-game heroes and villains. While the game is no longer being supported, there is still an active modding community.
Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioWare’s first ever massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG), ranks third most searched Star Wars game worldwide, with the game racking up an estimated 748,070 worldwide searches every month. While this is BioWare’s first MMO, the developer is behind big RPG hits such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Baldur’s Gate. At the time of launch, analysts estimated it to be the most expensive video game ever made, with potential development cost between $150-200 million. However Electronic Arts announced a near billion dollars lifetime revenue from the game in 2019, making it one of the most successful MMORPGs to be released. The game has also been officially recognised by Guinness World Records for “Largest Entertainment Voice Over Project Ever”, with over 200,000 recorded lines of dialogue with hundreds of voice actors. The game was released in 2011 and has since gone on to receive eight expansion packs with the latest, Legacy of the Sith, released February 2022. Star Wars: The Old Republic uses a hybrid free-to-play and optional subscription model.
Coming in at fourth on the list is classic RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), which has received 464,520 global monthly searches. Developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts, the story revolves around the fully customisable player character, who wakes up on a Republic ship as it is being attacked by Darth Malak’s forces, and embarks on a journey across the galaxy, exploring planets such as Tatooine, Taris and Korriban. At the time of release in 2003, KOTOR won multiple game of the year awards across the industry, with particular praise going to its gameplay, characters, storyline and sound, and was noted for its use of the Dungeons & Dragons d20 system. Despite being released almost 20 years ago, the game holds up as a fan-favourite of the series, so much so that a Nintendo Switch version was released, and a KOTOR remake has been announced by Sony and Aspyr in 2021, which will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. This entry is BioWare’s second appearance on the list and is also the oldest release in the top ten.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the fifth most searched Star Wars video game, with each month seeing an average of 445,190 searches for the action-adventure game. Released 5 April 2022, players can play through all nine films of the Star Wars saga, reimagined in a LEGO world, with a whole galaxy of planets to explore, including Naboo, Coruscant, Hoth, Kashyyk and more. The game is typical of its nature in the LEGO Star Wars series, with critics praising its level design, combat gameplay and humour. The game was developed by British studio Traveller’s Tales and was published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Players can enjoy single player and couch co-op, however there are no online multiplayer features supported.

A spokesperson for Solitaired commented on the study, saying: “The Star Wars series has seen some outstanding game releases. These findings show that Respawn Entertainment has developed the biggest Star Wars game in the series so far, and that fans are still eager for more RPG-style releases as seen with the popularity of Knights of the Old Republic, even almost 20 years on from its release. Each title on the list appeals to different user playstyles, proving that Star Wars has a hugely broad appeal within video games and developers can create totally unique experiences out of one universe. The action-adventure style is a clear firm favourite for Star Wars gaming fans, being the only title to receive over one million monthly searches worldwide. Star Wars Eclipse has already made it in the top ten before its release, and it will be interesting to see how the rankings change as it moves closer to a release date.”
The study was conducted by Solitaired where users can play over 500 games for free.
