AUK Protection has initiated a collaboration with RECCO, manufacturer of a search technology used by more than 900 rescue organisations and ski patrols worldwide. The challenge today is to make rescuers searchable during a potential accident, but at the same time not disturb an ongoing search operation. The RECCO system save lives today, and with this new function, with a shielded reflector, the goal is to make the search process more efficient, meaning finding a lost person quicker.
The RECCO system consists of a detector and a reflector. In this case the reflector would be integrated in the clothing of the rescue worker. The detector sends out a directional signal that is bounced back by the reflector, indicating the location of a person in distress. The possibilities of a shielded reflector is that a rescuer can work without the risk of disturbing an ongoing search operation, despite reflectors in their own clothing. The new solution is meant to complete earlier methods that has been used to shield reflectors in rescuers clothing or gear during a search operation.
– Attaching a RECCO rescue reflector to the uniforms of helicopter crews adds a true layer of safety. Because the reflector can be temporarily shielded, the entire search process could be made more efficient, säger Olle Berg, Product Manager på RECCO.
Smaller adjustments are still to be made before the launch.
– I have participated in rescue operations where time often is a factor that affects the outcome. With this solution, it will give us a greater possibility to participate without the fear of disturbing any equipment used at the scene, says Michael Elmeskog, pilot and partner, AUK Protection.
AUK Protection expects that the optional with a shielded reflector will be available on the market at the end of the year or beginning of 2023
