, son of Welsh Boxing legend, former world champ Steve Robinson fought for the Commonwealth Featherweight Title on Friday 13th May in Glasgow.
Robinson senior, known as the Cinderella man, won the WBO world title in 1993, famously taking the fight at 24 hours notice. He went on to make seven successful defences of his title.
Unlike the sons of other world champs, Baby Jake has worked his way up, doing things the hard way. Crowned the national Champion of Wales in November 2021, southpaw Baby Jake boasts an unblemished professional 9 and 0 record.
Baby Jake steps into the lion’s den in Glasgow on Friday night as the away fighter to face local hero Nathaniel Collins, who has also never tasted defeat in the paid ranks.
Despite his perfect record, Baby Jake like his father all those years ago steps into the ring a huge underdog, quoted by Ladbrokes with a very backable 7/2 chance. The more discerning gambler may well be tempted into a punt.
Taking everything in his stride, Baby Jake said,
“ Fighting for the Commonwealth title is a great opportunity. My whole life, I have dreamt of becoming a world champion, the Commonwealth title is on that journey. I am Welsh and we are fighters, I can’t wait to get into the ring. Our Celtic cousins in Scotland are passionate people like us. The atmosphere will be electric and tasting it will be amazing.
I am expecting a hot reception in the ring and out of it. I have my skill set, we have a game plan and I am taking that title home with me.”
The fight took place at the SECC – Hydro in Glasgow.
