Online gaming platform Solitaired analyzed Spotify data for 40 of the most iconic video game soundtracks and scores, to find out which albums people are listening to the most and which are the best performing individual tracks.

1. Undertale

Undertale is the most listened to video game soundtrack in the list, with 948.6 million lifetime streams across all the tracks throughout the video game soundtrack. Undertale also takes the top spot as having the most played individual video game track, MEGALOVANIA, which has received a whopping 114.8 million streams on Spotify since its release.

2. Minecraft

Minecraft ranks as the second most streamed soundtrack, with 782.6 million combined streams across both its Alpha and Beta soundtracks. Minecraft has the highest average streams per track of any video game however, with each of its 54 tracks receiving 14.5 million streams on average.

4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 has the fourth most streamed video game soundtrack with a total of 369.4 million streams. The game, which was later adapted as part of the Netflix series, has 6.6 million streams per track on average, with its top track ‘Geralt of Rivia’ ranking as the 15th most streamed video game track overall.

5. Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V takes the fifth spot with 310.4 million total streams across both volumes of its soundtrack. The landmark open world sequel sees collaborations from the likes of A$AP Rocky, who produced ‘r-Cali’ as part of the original music soundtrack, which sits at 52.5 million streams and is the fifth most played song out of any video game.

6. Doom (2016)

The 2016 release of the video game classic Doom has the sixth most listened to soundtrack, with 309.7 million total streams and 9.98 million streams on average per track. Doom’s individual track ‘Rip & Tear’ places a notable third place overall with 61.8 million streams.

7. The Last of Us

The Last of Us comes in seventh place overall, with 206.2 million streams in total across its 30 tracks. Its most streamed individual track, unsurprisingly titled ‘The Last of Us’ has 42.3 million streams and ranks as the seventh most listened to song out of all the games in the list.

8. Call of Duty: Black Ops – Zombies

The album that accompanies the game’s much beloved zombie mode ranks in eighth place, with 134.2 million streams overall and 7.9 million streams per track on average. Its most popular song ‘115’, which players can initiate as an easter egg on the Kino Der Toten map, is the fourth most played song overall with 53.5 million streams.

9. Ori and the Blind Forest

Ori and the Blind Forest ranks as the ninth most played video game soundtrack with 98.5 million streams and an average of 3.1 million streams per track. The puzzle platformer’s most popular song, ‘Ori, Lost in the Storm’ ranks 17th overall with 20.5 million streams.

10. God of War

God of War rounds off the list coming in tenth place overall with 90.2 total streams, for an average of 4.3 million plays per track. The game, which released in 2018, recently became available to PC gamers in January of this year and its top track ‘God of War’ places as the tenth most played individual song overall with 29.2 million streams.

A spokesperson from Solitaired commented on the findings: “Sound design and music make up for a large proportion of the gaming experience, so for many a strong soundtrack can be just as impactful as a video game’s visuals.

“Undertale deservedly takes the top spot, its success coming in part due to the extensive 101 songs that make up its 8-bit styled soundtrack, clocking more tracks than any game album in the list.

“Minecraft appears to have the most consistently popular soundtrack, with the most plays on average per track, suggesting the individual songs also serve as great standalone compositions.”
